Hydration in Labor
What am I setting aside for nutritional support as I prepare for my second birth?
I know from experience that I may not be up for eating much during labor. This puts great emphasis on foods and beverages that provide optimal nutritional support.

I have a personal stash of coconut water on hand, as well as a package of bendy straws for ease in getting it down. (I say "personal" because your birth team may appreciate some nutritional support, too!) Coconut water is great because it is packed with electrolytes, potassium, and vitamin C. Personally, I like Vita Coco® Pure Coconut Water with Pineapple. You can pick up a couple of cartons at your local health or grocery store, and at mainstream pharmacies. Steer clear of anything with added sugar.
If you aren't a fan of coconut water Recharge® is another great option. Recharge is a natural sports drink that is free of added sugar and artifical colors and flavors. Your best bet is to take a trip to your local natural foods marketplace, Whole Foods, or Amazon.com.
A tablespoon of honey is another good go-to when you are well into active labor and in need of a little energy boost! Water and ice chips are great choices, too.
